This International Ladies Garment Workers Union (ILGWU) banner is one of several examples in our collection of a banner being used and modified through changes in union governance.
A close look at this banner shows that its banner local numbers have been repainted to add more union locals over time. The locals represented on the banner – 14, 68, 83, 92, and 94 – came together on the Joint Board in 1934. Repainted to reflect all five locals, this helps us date the banner, which could not have been created after 1934 when all five locals were on the Joint Board for the first time.
